StrideCertified™ Devices

Thanks to HTML5 technology, Stride Academy is compatible with more devices than ever, including many high performance tablets. iPad provides the most reliable tablet performace to date and we are hard at work to certify other devices.

Are you a Windows XP, or a Macintosh OS X 10.6 (and earlier) user?
Chrome has ended support for XP and OS X 10.6 (and earlier) as of April 2016. Users may be able to use an older version of Chrome on these operating systems, but should note they will also be subject to security vulnerabilities. The latest version of Firefox should continue to provide stable support, and is recommended for those on these Operating Systems.

Additionally, Windows XP was previously set to EOL (End of Life) and is no longer supported by Microsoft. We provide "transitional support" for XP running the latest version Firefox, with the caveat that XP is subject to significant security vulnerabilities if not supervised by a network administrator with adequate control of rights management. We strongly recommend upgrading to a supported OS for your safety and security. However, we will continue to provide ongoing support for schools who continue to use XP as the underlying OS while running a Stride compatible version of Chrome or Firefox browser.

Running Windows Vista or greater?
Microsoft limits Internet Explorer compatibility to IE 8, which is an outdated non-HTML5 compatible browser that is not Stride Certified. If you prefer or are required by your organization to use Internet Explorer, be sure you have the latest version available.

Are you an iPad 2 user?
Ideally, iPad 2 users should be on iOS 9.3.5. If experiencing problems with scratchpad on iPad 2, iOS 9.3.5, Chrome is the suggested alternative. Known problems for iOS 7 and 8.1 on iPad 2 may include: audio errors with auto-play of voiceover, audio on Lunch Bug game, and video and audio play-back. Localized errors from students using iPad 2 with any of those versions can often be solved by toggling Wi-Fi on and off. Double tapping the home button brings up all open apps / windows. All apps can be closed from here and another attempt can be made. If that does not fix local problems, the user can restart the iPad.

Bandwidth Requirements:

A "broadband" connection is required. Stride Academy will dynamically modulate buffering (pre-loading) in a variety of bandwidth scenarios for best performance. The U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) defines "Basic Broadband" as data transmission speeds of at least 4 Mbit/s downstream (from the Internet to the user’s computer) and 1 Mbit/s upstream (from the user’s computer to the Internet).

Stride Academy uses the best-in-industry network delivery technology from Limelight, with over 7gbps of egress capacity to ensure that our digital assets are always lightning fast.

Latest Stride Certification Status:

Note: iOS 9.3.5 is the most recent version proven to be compatible with Stride. If you are on any previous iOS 9.x version, we recommend upgrading to iOS 9.3.5, as some game audio is lost with the earlier 9.x versions.

Non-Apple devices compatible with Stride Academy have:

-Either Windows 8.1 or Android 4.1 or higher
-A quad core or higher processor
-1GB or more of RAM

-Due to the vast array of Android devices on the market, it is highly advisable to test out any given Android device before assuming that it will work with Stride Academy, even if said device meets the above specifications. For example, in our tests, we found the Kindle Fire HD to not perform adequately when rendering game animation. Taking this into consideration, we have not had many problems running Stride Academy on any of the modern devices that meet the above specifications.
